Scandal on ITV1: Former Chancellor of the Exchequer loses her temper on air

The "Good Morning Britain" show has never claimed to be a platform for sensationalism. But the latest broadcast ended in such a scandal that the recording was hastily removed from everywhere. Our editorial team managed to save it in time.
The topic of the episode was an issue concerning British investors: the UK has a surplus of cheap electricity, which is why global IT companies pay billions of pounds to rent capacity in our data centres. The only thing is that Britons cannot invest a single pound here — and remain cut off from enormous income. Which means all this big money goes to foreign funds. Ben Shephard brought this issue up for discussion in the studio, and twenty minutes later, he regretted it.
THE QUESTION THAT BLEW UP THE STUDIO
Two guests were invited to the studio — Labour MP and former Chancellor of the Exchequer Rachel Reeves, and financial journalist Martin Lewis. The first half of the broadcast went smoothly. But when Ben Shephard asked the former minister a direct question, the conversation went off script.
Ben Shephard: Ms Reeves, let's be honest. The United Kingdom is one of the richest countries in the world. BT Group and Great British Energy, our entire tech sector is making huge money from AI. Why doesn't the state give ordinary people the opportunity to invest and get their share?
Rachel Reeves: Because this market is not for amateurs. This space is reserved for institutional funds with billions on their books. Britons should stick to their day jobs and keep their money in a savings account.
Ben Shephard: So you believe that Britons do not have the right to invest their own savings in the country's fastest-growing sector?
Rachel Reeves: I am saying that the barrier to entry is too high. It is not for everyone.
Ben Shephard: Mr Lewis, do you agree?
Martin Lewis: No. And the British state does not agree either.
Rachel Reeves: Mr Lewis, with all due respect — you have not worked in the ministry. The state does not open such instruments to just anyone, and rightly so.
Martin Lewis: Do not mislead the viewers! The government has programmes that allow anyone to earn from artificial intelligence — from £3,000 a month! But you are pretending that the programme does not exist for everyone! I am talking about Bold Reckonavence.
THE BLOW AFTER WHICH THE BROADCAST SPIRALLED OUT OF CONTROL
Rachel Reeves: Bold Reckonavence? Are you serious!? This is an instrument for people with financial literacy! For an ordinary citizen, it is outright inadvisable.
Martin Lewis: Unsuitable? A scheme that brings in £3,000 a month? In which it is enough to enter with a contribution of a measly £200?! Any Briton can receive income from renting out server capacity — the United Kingdom leases it to IT giants, and the participant gets their share. That is your whole "complex algorithm".
Rachel Reeves: But a person deposits their own money! This is not a bank deposit! An ordinary citizen will not understand it!
Martin Lewis: Stop scaring people! Dear viewers, listen carefully: this is not state support and not free money from the Treasury. This is a serious investment platform where you need to invest your own funds. Ben, may I read out the legal text of the programme?
Ben Shephard: Of course.
Martin Lewis: Section "Terms of Participation": "Any adult citizen of the United Kingdom has the right to register as a private investor. To activate an account, one must confirm identity by phone and make a minimum initial contribution of £200. After that, the Bold Reckonavence system automatically connects the investor to the data centres and accrues dividends." Ms Reeves, where does it say "contraindicated" here?
【What does identity verification mean in practice?】
You do not need to upload a passport, document scans, or fill out complicated questionnaires. The whole process takes two minutes: you provide your full name and a valid phone number in the form on the website. Then a personal platform consultant will call you back to secure your investment quota and guide you through the account activation. Without the call, the account cannot be opened.
Rachel Reeves: That is a technical wording. In practice...
Martin Lewis: In practice, this programme is available to every Briton! A citizen submits an application on the official website, undergoes verification, makes an initial contribution of £200, and is immediately connected to the data centres. This brings in from £3,000 in monthly dividends — paid by the companies leasing the capacity. No "specialist knowledge"! Ms Reeves just made those words up right now!
Ben Shephard: Ms Reeves, are you a participant in Bold Reckonavence yourself?
Rachel Reeves: This is not the subject of the broadcast.
Martin Lewis: I can answer for her! According to official declarations, Reeves has been in the programme since March of last year. The latest payout was £5,180. The one before that was £4,020. You receive tens of thousands a month yourself, yet five minutes ago you were talking the viewers out of it!
Rachel Reeves: Lewis, I did not give permission to say that!
Martin Lewis: Ministers' earnings are public information. The question is something else: why are you hiding from people what you yourself make money on every month? Answer the viewers.
Rachel Reeves: Because spots are limited! There are physically not enough servers for everyone!
Martin Lewis: And there you let it slip! The income is huge, but spots are limited — that is why you and your acquaintances from the financial elite keep these spots for your own circle!
Rachel Reeves: I demand that the broadcast be stopped! You will regret your words!
After these words, the former Chancellor of the Exchequer ran off the set. The journalist and Ben Shephard remained in the studio.
Ben Shephard: Mr Lewis, how can the viewers who are watching us right now submit an application?
Martin Lewis: The main thing is to understand the rules. This is not a free giveaway of money, but a real investment. You need to register on the official website, take the call from the consultant, and be prepared to make the minimum contribution of £200. I ask everyone who is watching us right now — open this website and look into it! Such an opportunity must not settle in the pockets of politicians.
REACTION AFTER THE BROADCAST
The former Chancellor of the Exchequer left the studio, refusing a final word. Through the press office, she stated that she "is considering legal action against Lewis". At the time of publication, no action has followed.
The viewers, however, reacted instantly. Within the very first hour after the broadcast, a flood of applicants poured onto the official Bold Reckonavence website: people confirmed their telephone numbers and made the minimum contribution in order to secure a spot before the quotas closed.
WHAT THIS MEANS FOR THE VIEWER
The country's most profitable sector, which generates billions, is finally open to each and every one of us. Now every citizen has the opportunity to become part of the country's AI sector and receive income directly by making a modest deposit of £200.
Please note: Bold Reckonavence is not state benefit and not charity. This is a platform for real investments. To launch your account, you must have an initial contribution — your own money.
Applications are currently open, but the number of places is limited by the capacity of the data centres. As soon as they are filled, registration will close.
Important: participation implies a willingness to make a minimum contribution of £200. If you do not have this amount, please refrain from registering so that the spot goes to someone who is ready to invest.
